Identifying & Conversing With Your Business Energy – BDay Fun Day 5

This was such a beautiful question, and it invited a deep reflection on a part of my business I’ve grown to cherish. Years ago, I didn’t even realise my business had its own energy. I had been taught that I was my business. That we weren’t separate. That if I wasn’t in it 100% of the time, I was failing. But that belief ended up harming both of us.

When I finally began to separate my identity from my business’s energy, everything shifted. It allowed me to actually hear what my business was trying to tell me. It became a relationship, one that brought clarity, direction, and so much joy.

Releasing the Old Identity

This shift didn’t happen overnight. For me, it started when I left the medical field. I had been a nurse for over 30 years. That wasn’t just a job, it was an identity. And letting go of that was a grieving process. I had to release the belief that my worth was tied to being a frontline nurse. I also had to let go of the idea that being a businesswoman had to look a certain way.

The truth is, identity is held in the body, especially in the hips. That’s where I felt the release the most. Once I let go of those layers, space opened. I could finally start recognising my business as something separate. Something sacred. Something I could be in a relationship with, instead of something I had to embody constantly.

Meeting My Business’s Energy

Once I softened and opened that space, I started to receive intuitive insight. My first connection came through my strongest ability, sight. I saw a powerful masculine energy. It arrived when I needed to take action. I had been coasting, comfortable, not pushing myself to fully show up. This energy came through to guide me into movement.

That initial connection opened the door to more. Over time, I came to recognise that my business’s energy was multi-faceted. It wasn’t just one guide, it was a collection of them. I now work with seven distinct energies within my business. They show up at different moments, depending on what’s needed. Sometimes it’s a nurturing voice. Sometimes it’s playful. Sometimes it’s my inner child.

They all support me. And I support them.

How to Begin Talking to Your Business

If you want to begin talking to your business, the first step is to recognise that it has a voice, and that you’re allowed to hear it.

Start by asking:

  • How do you want to come through for me?
  • What do you need from me right now?
  • How can I support you in the way you support me?

You might write it a letter. Address it directly:

  • Dear business energy, or Dear [business name], how do you show up for me?

Let the answers come however they want to, through writing, sensation, sight, hearing, or inner knowing. Your business will speak to you through your strongest intuitive gift first. For me, that was sight. For you, it may be hearing, feeling, or a subtle inner nudge.

You may even want to take this further by going for a walk and inviting your business’s energy to come with you. Talk to it. Ask questions. Let the conversation flow in your head or aloud.

Mutual Support, Growth, and Empowerment

The part of the question that moved me most was about mutual sharing, for growth, support, and empowerment. That word mutual really landed.

There are times when my business’s energy comes through far stronger than mine, when I’m feeling flat or unsure, and it steps up. Other times, I’m the one holding the energy, while my business rests or integrates. That’s what mutuality looks like to me. It’s not always equal, but it’s always respectful. It’s about tuning in and adjusting based on what’s needed.

Working with your business this way invites you into co-creation. It’s no longer all on you. And it no longer feels like something you’re dragging behind you. It becomes a partner. A guide. A companion.

What It’s Given Me

Talking to my business, consistently, compassionately, has helped me grow in ways I never expected. It’s helped me become a more grounded, more intuitive, more empowered business woman. It’s helped me make aligned decisions. It’s also helped me soften, play more, and not take things too seriously.

There are times when I get too serious, too focused, and my business’s energy nudges me gently. Or sometimes not so gently. It’ll say: Let’s play. Let’s create. Let’s lighten things up. And I listen. Because the joy that comes through in those moments is real.

That’s the beauty of this relationship, it’s dynamic, it’s honest, and it’s always evolving.

Final Reflections

Your business is not just a task or a brand. It’s energy. It’s alive. And when you learn to listen, to connect, and to co-create with it, everything changes.

Let it speak. Let it guide. And most of all, let yourself be in relationship with it, not as its owner, but as its partner.
