Sometimes I need to say things straight. Not in a shouty way, but in a grounded, truth-filled, intuitive way. And one of those truths is this. A lot of the advice out there is too generic to serve your business. And if you don’t start filtering it, you might find yourself following strategies or ideas that never felt aligned in the first place.
This isn’t about dismissing everything you read or hear. It’s about asking: is this actually meant for me? Was this created with me in mind? Because most of the time, it wasn’t. And if you’re highly intuitive, creative, sensitive to energy, or led by soul, generic advice can feel not only wrong but exhausting.

What Happens When You Follow Advice That’s Not for You
A while ago I saw a subject line that read: “Why low-ticket pricing keeps you stuck.” And I’ll be honest, it made me angry. Because that’s a sweeping statement sent to thousands of people, most of whom that sender doesn’t even know. They don’t know your business. They don’t know your model, your energy, your intentions.
I offer a low-ticket product. I have a $17 intuitive business reading that people love. And I love offering it. I’ve had people tell me to raise the price, and I’ve chosen not to—because it’s aligned. It’s meant to be accessible. It’s meant to help people get to know me and my work.
When you read advice like that, especially advice that starts with “you should,” “you must,” or “this always”, take a breath. Come back to your body. Ask: does this feel true for me?
Social Media Advice Can Be Just as Noisy
Another big area where generic advice runs wild is social media. People will say, “Don’t waste your time with YouTube, it doesn’t make money.” Or, “You should be on TikTok, everyone’s there.” Or, “Instagram Reels are the only way to grow now.”
And here’s the thing. If you don’t enjoy a platform, if it drains you, it won’t work for you. Your energy is the foundation of everything in your business. So if your energy is low or resistant, the outcome won’t be aligned, even if the algorithm says it should be.
I love my YouTube channel. I don’t have thousands of subscribers, and I don’t care. It brings me joy. It connects me with people who are meant to hear my voice. That’s enough.
If you love writing, write. If you love speaking, speak. And if you’re sharing something beautiful, share it across platforms. Don’t let anyone tell you that your content has to be different everywhere or that you’re doing it wrong.
There Are Always Cycles
Social media platforms go through cycles. What works now may not work next month, and what didn’t work before might start gaining traction again. That’s why consistency matters more than following the next trend.
If you keep showing up in your energy, your rhythm, your way, the right people will find you. And if you’ve been doing something like Reels or email consistently, and suddenly those formats become more visible again, guess what? You’re already in motion. You’re not starting from scratch.
This is why trusting your own cycle is so powerful. Not because it’s faster, but because it’s sustainable.
Filter Everything Through Your Intuition
Even when you’re paying for advice, especially when you’re paying—filter it. Tune into your body, your inner knowing, and your business’s energy. Ask whether this advice belongs to you.
If it feels light, expansive, clear, it probably does. If it feels heavy, constricting, or confusing, it probably doesn’t.
Here are some reminders to keep with you:
- Generic advice is created for a wide audience. You are not a wide audience.
- If something doesn’t feel good, you don’t have to do it, no matter who says it works.
- Your intuition, your energy, and your business are in conversation every day. Listen to them first.
Final Reflections
You are not here to follow rules that don’t feel right. You are not here to shrink yourself to fit someone else’s model. You are here to lead, to create, and to build something real, on your terms.
The more you listen to yourself, the more your business will speak back. Trust that. Follow that. Let that be the advice you keep.
