Embracing Insourcing For Confident Decision Making

We’ve been taught, over and over again, that someone else has the answers. That the next coach, course, or system will be the missing piece. And without even realising it, we start outsourcing every decision, our direction, our offers, even our intuition.

But there’s a different way. A softer way. A way that invites you to come home to your own inner knowing. This is where insourcing begins, not as a rejection of support, but as a return to trust. To your voice. To your body. To your business’s energy.

The Habit of Outsourcing Starts Early

For many of us, this pattern started long before business. I was raised in a beautiful religion that also shaped how I viewed authority. We were taught that we didn’t have the answers, we had to go to someone else for them. Even something as simple as choosing the colour of a car became a decision for the minister, not my parents.

When you’re brought up in that kind of environment, you learn not to trust your own thoughts. You second-guess. You seek validation. You believe others know better.

So it’s no surprise that when I first started turning my hobby into a business, I repeated those patterns. I signed up for every freebie, every course. I hired coaches, joined programs, and collected strategies. And while I was “doing the work,” I was also avoiding the real work, learning how to trust myself.

The Cost of Constant Outsourcing

Outsourcing every decision doesn’t just delay progress, it keeps you stuck. It tells your nervous system, over and over again, “You can’t do this alone.”

I kept my business a hobby for years because I didn’t believe I could run it without someone else’s direction. I didn’t believe I had the wisdom or confidence or clarity. I was waiting for someone to give me permission to take the next step.

But the truth is, no one else can run your business. No one else can feel what you feel, or sense what’s right in your body. That’s why insourcing is so powerful, it reconnects you with what’s already within.

Your Business Has Its Own Energy

One of the biggest shifts came when I realised my business has its own energy. It’s not just a brand or a to-do list. It’s a living presence, an entity that I birthed, but that also exists outside of me.

And I started talking to it. Not metaphorically, literally. I treated it like a wise guide, a companion. I’d sit with a decision, place my hands on my heart, and ask: “What do you need from me right now?”

This practice changed everything. It helped me stop looking outward and start listening inward. I realised I didn’t have to abandon logic, but I didn’t have to ignore intuition either. I could let them work together. I could become the leader my business needed.

How to Start Insourcing

If you’re used to outsourcing every decision, insourcing might feel strange at first. That’s okay. Like any new practice, it takes time to build trust.

You can begin with small steps:

  • When you have a decision to make, resist the urge to ask someone else right away.
  • Instead, write down the pros and cons on a piece of paper.
  • Hold it to your heart, close your eyes, and ask your intuition and your business: What’s the next right move?
  • Listen. Breathe. Notice what comes through such as words, sensations, emotions. All of it counts.

With time, you may not need to write things down. You’ll simply drop in. Hands on heart, eyes closed, and ask: “What’s aligned for us right now?”

And if you don’t get a clear answer? That’s okay too. Sometimes the clarity comes later. Sometimes the answer is simply wait.

Practice Builds Confidence

Learning to insource is like learning to play an instrument. You don’t master it in one sitting. You practise. You return. You listen again.

It’s not about getting it perfect, it’s about building a relationship. With your inner voice. With your business’s energy. With the part of you that already knows.

The more you practise, the stronger the connection becomes. You’ll start making more decisions with ease. You’ll notice less urgency. More clarity. Less noise. More truth.

You Don’t Have to Do It All Alone

This doesn’t mean you’ll never outsource again. There are times when hiring a specialist, collaborating, or seeking guidance is deeply supportive. I still do it. But now, I do it from alignment, not fear. From discernment, not desperation.

You can absolutely ask for help and still lead from your own inner knowing. That’s the balance. That’s empowered insourcing.

Final Reflections

You were never meant to outsource your wisdom. It’s always been in you, quiet, waiting, wise. When you insource, you return to it. You start to build a business that feels more like you. That grows from trust, not templates.

Let yourself listen. Let your business speak. And watch how things begin to shift.
