Creativity Isn’t What You Think It Is

Here’s the truth: creativity is not boxed into a canvas or confined to a paintbrush. Creativity is what lights you up from the inside. It’s joy in motion.

If walking through nature makes your heart sing, that’s creativity. If you love whipping up a good stir-fry or experimenting with your slow cooker, that’s creativity too. If creating spreadsheets makes you feel deeply satisfied — you guessed it — that’s your form of creative expression.

Creativity is not limited to traditional definitions. It’s expansive. It’s personal. And it’s deeply connected to the Earth Connection Chakra because when you’re grounded, you allow your joy to take form in ways that feel nourishing.

What Does Creativity Feel Like in the Body?

Let’s bring this closer — into the body. When you engage in something creative, how does your body respond?

Close your eyes and think of something that brings you joy. Feel into it. Notice your heart rate, your breath, your skin. Are there shivers? Warmth? Do words like “peace” or “love” pop into your mind?

When I tap into creativity, I feel stillness and serenity in every cell. It’s as if the outside world disappears, and I’m one with what I’m doing. That feeling — of being completely present — is how I know I’m in creative alignment.

Sometimes, I do a body scan to deepen that awareness. I imagine a mini version of myself, buzzing with energy, exploring every organ, every vessel, every space in my body. It’s like a joyful little guide, checking in on how I’m really doing.

The more often I do this, the more intuitive it becomes. Creativity and embodiment go hand in hand. The more connected you are to your body, the faster you recognise when creativity flows — and when it doesn’t.

Bringing Creativity Into Business

Just as you’re connected to your body, you can — and should — be connected to your business. Your business has an energy, a soul. You’ve birthed it, after all. And when you’re grounded in that energy, creativity flows more freely through your business, too.

So how do you tap into that?

Simple. Visualise taking your business energy with you right down into the core of Mother Earth. Sit with it there. Ask it: “How do you want to be creative today?” Then listen. Maybe you’ll hear something. Maybe you’ll feel or see something. However your business speaks to you — that’s the perfect way.

Creativity in your business isn’t just about designing beautiful graphics or writing clever copy. It’s about finding joy in the way you run your business. Maybe you bring in a playful tone to your emails. Maybe you reorganise your systems in a way that feels nourishing. Maybe you give yourself permission to work differently than you did last week.

This is what makes your business energy happier. Lighter. More magnetic.

Identity and Flow

Your business also has an identity — and that identity can evolve. It should evolve. Because identity is fluid. It shifts with you.

For years, I identified as a nurse and a paramedic. That was who I was. But over time, that changed. I realised that I’m not just a job title — I’m a human being. And so are you. Your identity isn’t what you do. It’s who you are.

The same goes for your business. You may start off identifying your business as serious and structured. But what if it wants to play a little? What if it has a more feminine energy some days — soft, intuitive, flowing — and a more masculine energy other days — focused, assertive, clear?

That’s the beauty of a creative business. It responds. It shifts. It grows with you.

When I’ve been sitting at the computer too long, doing all the structured “masculine” tasks, a younger, playful energy often emerges in my business. I hear her say, “Time to have a break, darling.” And I listen. Because when I don’t, things get too heavy. Too rigid. That’s when creativity gets blocked.

Letting your business have an identity that moves between energies is a form of creativity in itself.

Creativity as an Emotional Guide

Another reason creativity is essential in business? It allows you to respond — not react.

When you’re in a creative flow, you’re more grounded. More centred. So when things go well (or not so well), you don’t fly off the handle or spiral into overwhelm. You take a breath. You respond.

You feel that moment of “ahh, that was great,” and you let it settle. You don’t react with a rush of adrenaline. You embody the experience. You respond with joy, with peace, with clarity.

This is the subtle yet powerful difference between running a business that depletes you and one that uplifts you.

Physical, Business, and Identity Alignment

Let’s bring it back to the Earth Connection Chakra. When you’re grounded in this chakra, your creativity flows through three key areas:

  1. Your Body – You feel creativity as a physical experience. It might be warmth, tingles, stillness, or excitement. Your body knows when it’s in flow.
  2. Your Business – You honour the energy of your business by bringing joy into how you run it. Creativity doesn’t have to result in a product. It’s about infusing your business with vitality.
  3. Your Identity – You allow yourself — and your business — to evolve. Identities aren’t fixed. The creative freedom to shift and expand is where true growth lives.

Creativity, when grounded in the Earth Connection Chakra, becomes a sacred practice. It’s not a luxury. It’s a necessity.

Final Thoughts

Remembering that creativity isn’t reserved for “artistic” people. It’s for everyone. It lives in the way you cook, the way you connect, the way you breathe life into your business. It lives in spreadsheets, stir-fries, and slow walks. It lives in laughter, intuition, and even silence.

Creativity is joy. And joy is your compass. Let it guide you.
