This is a conversation that touches the heart of what so many business owners quietly carry. When business starts to feel heavy, overwhelming, or unclear, it’s easy to assume something’s wrong with your mindset or your motivation. But what if the real issue is deeper than that?
In this piece, I want to explore what’s actually happening when business starts to feel hard. We’re talking about disconnection, how it shows up, how to recognise it, and how to rebuild your relationship with your business from a space of trust and inner alignment. Because once you reconnect with your business as a living energy, things really do begin to shift.

When Disconnection Becomes the Root of Struggle
Disconnection from your business can be subtle at first. Maybe you don’t want to create content. Maybe you start outsourcing your decisions, asking your coach, a Facebook group, or even your audience to tell you what to do next.
You might ask questions like:
- “Which of these graphics looks better?”
- “Should I run this offer or that one?”
- “What would you do if you were me?”
And when you’re constantly outsourcing like that, it’s often a sign that you’re not fully connected to your own business energy.
It’s not that you can’t ask for advice, of course you can. But the space you’re in when you ask matters. If you’re in a grounded, aligned place and want a second opinion, that’s different. But if you’re feeling scattered or unclear, no amount of outside input will anchor you. You need to come home to your own knowing first.
Exhaustion Is Often a Sign of Misalignment
When we talk about burnout and overwhelm, we often forget to look at energetic alignment. If you’re forcing things, following a path that no longer resonates, or ignoring your inner signals, it will wear you down. Business begins to feel heavy not because you’re doing too much, but because you’re doing things that aren’t aligned with your current truth.
Your business and your purpose may not always be the same. They can overlap, and sometimes they don’t. It’s okay if they’re different. But you need to know what your business is really here for. What energy it’s holding and what kind of work it’s meant to do with you.
When you move from your North Star, everything starts to recalibrate. The stress softens. The push turns into flow. You don’t have to know all the answers, you just need to be willing to tune back in.
Strengthen the Connection With Your Business
Your business isn’t just a structure. It’s energy. Just like you, it’s alive with momentum, pauses, purpose, and rhythm. The more you treat it like a co-creative partner, the more clearly you’ll hear what it needs, and what it’s asking of you.
When you feel energised to create, but nothing flows…that’s your business asking for reconnection. You might be ready, but your business might not be. And that’s okay. Instead of pushing through, it helps to pause and listen.
There are practices that can support this:
- Sit quietly and tune in to your business as if it were a person or energy in the room with you.
- Ask it, “What do you need from me right now?” and notice what comes.
- Reconnect before you create, launch, or plan, not just after burnout sets in.
When you move from connection, the decisions become clearer. Creativity flows. Clarity returns. And the whole thing starts to feel lighter again.
Trusting Your Business Wisdom
Yes, you can have coaches and mentors. I do. But I make the final decisions myself, because this is my business. This is my book, my vision, my body of work. And I want to look at it and say, “That’s mine. That came from me.”
You started this business for a reason. You are the one with the vision. The one who holds the energy. And yes, guidance is helpful, but only when it complements your own knowing, not replaces it.
The more you trust yourself, the more you’ll find that things begin to flow. It may not always be smooth, but the resistance softens. The second-guessing fades. And that inner compass grows stronger every time you honour it.
Final Reflections
Business feels hard when we disconnect. Not because we’re doing something wrong, but because we’re no longer tuned in to the real voice that guides us, our own. The more you return to your inner knowing, the more your business becomes a space of creation, not confusion.
So if things feel heavy, you don’t need to push harder. You just need to reconnect, to yourself, to your business, and to the energy that started this journey in the first place.
