When you’re in business, there will be days when things just don’t feel clear. You might look at all the energy you’ve poured in, your content, your offers, your messaging, and wonder why it’s not landing. You’re doing all the things, but the response isn’t matching the effort. It’s a deeply frustrating and disorienting space. And it’s one we don’t talk about enough.
This piece is about what to do when you find yourself in that space. Not to fix it immediately or force clarity into being, but to gently meet yourself where you are. Because clarity doesn’t come through pushing. It comes when you step back, soften your grip, and invite your nervous system to breathe again.

Stepping Away to Shift the Energy
The very first thing I always recommend when confusion rises is to step away. If you’re sitting at your computer, trying to sort things out, and your body feels tense or your mind is spinning, stop. Just walk away. I don’t say that lightly. I say it firmly. Because staying in that energy and trying to force clarity will only bring more frustration.
Step outside. Have a coffee with a friend. Sit in the sun. Stand among your plants or flowers. Let your body move. Even a small change in scenery or a few gentle stretches can begin to shift your vibration.
Because that’s what we’re working with, vibration. Confusion is a dense, sticky energy. And when you move your body, even in the simplest of ways, you create space. Space for breath. Space for clarity. Space for something new to come in.
Speaking to the Energy of Your Business
Once you’ve stepped away and your energy feels a little lighter, that’s when you can begin to tune in. I love to do this by sitting somewhere calm, maybe not even back at my desk. I close my eyes, visualise a mini version of myself sitting in my heart space, and feel the grounding support of Mother Earth beneath me.
Then I invite my business’s energy in. I speak to it. Gently. Respectfully. As if it’s a living, breathing entity, which it is. I say, “Business, I love you. I need to step away for a little while because I’m feeling confused, and I don’t know what to do.”
And then I ask questions:
- What advice can you give me?
- Can you help me understand why I’m feeling this way?
- What’s underneath the confusion?
But I don’t rush for answers. I pause. I listen. I let the response come in its own way. Sometimes it’s a feeling. Sometimes it’s a visual. Sometimes it’s just a deep exhale that reminds me I’m supported.
And if nothing comes, if the confusion is too strong, that’s okay too.
Reaching Out for Support (Without Expecting Free Fixes)
If the fog is still there after all of that, it might be time to reach out. This is where support becomes essential. Do you have a coach or mentor you trust? Someone who knows your business and can hold that space with you?
Reach out gently. Maybe it’s an email, a message, a simple “Do you have space for a session?” And of course, you pay for it. This isn’t about expecting free guidance every time you feel stuck. It’s about investing in your clarity the same way you would invest in your strategy.
If your coach or mentor isn’t available, do you have a trusted business friend you can speak with? Not just anyone, someone who understands business. Family and friends, while well-meaning, often don’t have the context. You need someone who can sit beside you and hold the energy, even if they don’t give advice straight away.
Sometimes, just talking it out, without being interrupted or “fixed”, is the very thing that creates the breakthrough.
Letting Yourself Try Something Else Entirely
There are other ways to find clarity that don’t involve talking or thinking at all. I love to paint. When I’m painting, I drop into a presence. I’m not thinking about the confusion. I’m not analysing my business. I’m in flow. My hands are moving. My brain is resting. And that space often opens something new.
Other supportive practices might include:
- Journaling your thoughts without a filter, just to let them move
- Meditation or grounding visualisation to bring your energy back into your body
- Going for a walk, doing light exercise, or anything that releases happy hormones and helps you reset
- Taking a few days off if needed, not as avoidance, but as a conscious pause
You are not lazy for needing rest. You are not behind for not having answers. Sometimes, clarity needs you to stop chasing it. To let it land in its own time.
Final Reflections
Clarity doesn’t always arrive in the ways we expect. It often comes in stillness, in soft movement, in the moments when we stop trying to fix ourselves and start trusting what we already know.
If you’re feeling confused right now, let that be okay. Let it be a doorway into deeper listening. You don’t have to force your way out of it. You can hold yourself through it. And when you’re ready, clarity will meet you there.
